Is atheism gaining in popularity because of fundamentalist christianity?

Serious question, but I do expect it to be reported. I have been reading about societal paradigm shifts, and I believe the logical progression of thought is like a pendulum. In order to counter the extreme thinking of fundamentalist christians, "aggressive" atheism is the natural response. I have personally gone through this, and I am wondering if there are other people who also "became" atheist because of fundamentalist christianity?
