Why do Evangelicals often vote for the pro-life candidate no matter how irrelevant the position is?

One possible explanation (which an answerer above seemed to suggest) is that they consider anyone who condones abortion to be inherently evil, and willing to commit more evil deeds. Why you couldn't just ask them about their more relevant evil plans instead is somewhat beyond me.
